March 2012
From the Director’s Desk Dear Parents, I am sure we all hope spring is almost here!! That means summer is just around the corner. The summer packets for the 6-12 year olds are finished and have been mailed out to all the children who were with us last summer. Our Junior camp which will serve ages 4-5 year olds will have their summer packets by April 1st. This summer is going to be fun and full of new adventures. Also, I want to thank everyone who participated in our Best Of South Jersey voting competition. The results for the competition will come out in May. This month we will have two fundraisers. Our annual Yankee Fundraiser will run the first week in March. The second one will be our Chick-fil- A fundraiser which will be on Monday, March 22nd from 5pm to 8pm. All proceeds will go towards art supplies. On March 24th, we will have our second parent workshop on “Discipline” from 6pm to 7pm. Sign up sheet will be at the front desk. Finally, during this month the teachers will be introducing different famous authors to celebrate children’s Literature. The first week of March is Dr. Seuss week and we will celebrate his work with Ms. Mita’s famous Cat -n-the hat cake. MM Good!!! Thank You, Nina Turner

April 2012
From the Director’s Desk Dear Parents, Spring has sprung! We are looking forward with excitement to the warmer weather and springtime flowers. Easter this month is on April 4th. Discovery Corner will have its annual Egg Hunt on April 2nd, 2010. Preschool and Pre-k had their annual Hop-A-Thon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association last week. The school donated $50.00 toward this important cause. I believe this is a great way for the children to learn about their muscles, physical disabilities, and the concept that “everybody’s different, nobody’s perfect.” During the week of April 11 to 17th, we will be celebrating the “Week of the Young Child”. This year the theme is “Early Years are Learning Years”. During the week, we will be handing out information from local libraries and Barnes & Nobel on celebrations they will be holding for the week of the young child. On Wednesday April 14th we are asking that all the children come to school dressed up as one of their favorite book characters. In addition, this month is the celebration of Earth Day. The teachers will be focusing on the importance of the environment while participating in outdoor activities and art activities. Finally, we are sending out parent surveys that need to be returned by April, 9th. Your opinion is valuable to me and I hope everyone fills out the forms and return them. Thank You, Nina Turner

SUMMER PROGRAM
Starting on June 24th, we will begin our summer program. A schedule will come out shortly regarding when everyone will have splash day and when special visitors will be visiting our school.
Learn from a Vacation
Think of your summer vacation as a teachable moment. It’s sort of like tricking your kids into learning. One afternoon, you and your child should go online to such sites as Map Quest or one of the travel sites to help “research” the journey to and from the vacation site. This is a great way to incorporate a learning activity without them even knowing.

Daycare Approach
What We Do
At Discovery Corner Childcare & Enrichment Center, our philosophy in operating a child care program is two-fold: to meet the needs of parents for affordable, quality child care; and to insure that a child’s individual needs are met through our staffing and programming.
Our daycare program is based on sound principles of child development. Our goals are to give children a sense of self worth by helping them develop at their own pace while learning. We want the children to feel confident and secure enough to explore and grow in a stimulating educational and social daycare environment.
Program Summary
We provide activities in the following early childhood development areas:
- Social Development (Getting along in groups, Learning responsible behavior (such as sharing, respecting ethnic/cultural/age/sexual differences etc))
- Cognitive Development (Building reading and writing skills, providing experience with math and science, fostering imagination and creativity)
- Language Skills (Listening, speaking, following directions, learning numbers, relational concepts and classification skills leading to problem solving)
- Physical Development (Developing large and small muscle skills, exploring rhythms and movement, improving eye-hand coordination and perceptual skills)
- Emotional Development (Fostering cooperation, Developing independence, initiative and trust, Experiencing art, music, drama and dance)
